“Eastern” style combat was developed as a more historical target system. Since modern steel helmets can be constructed to appear like helmets of the Viking period, 14 gauge steel helmets are implemented. This allows for a more protected fighting system, and therefore a more intense combat style.

This style is characterized by combatants fully dressed in Viking clothing, with historical helmets, and target zones that allow for a moderately realistic style of fighting while remaining entertaining for a crowd. It also has a higher level of strike intensity than Western style due to the inclusion of heavier body armor such as chainmail. In addition, non-lethal percussive force can be used such as kicks, shield pressing, and strikes with the but end of pole weapons.

The term “Eastern” is a result of this style being favored among Viking age reenactors & reenactment events in the Eastern parts of Europe. This has spread globally, and many chapters of various groups around the world practice this style. Therefore, we are able to visit groups abroad and fight under the same regulations.
